Conference Producer - Research, Writing, Content Development and Speaker Acquisition (Oil/Gas Industry)

Job description

The Conference Producer will specialize in business research, project management, and the planning and execution of B2B events within the specified portfolios. You will research and compile intellectual content for conference programs on the cutting edge of business strategy in the Oil/Gas industry. You will be responsible for structuring the conference agenda as a result of live research with senior executives from a cross section of companies, as well as selecting and inviting high-level speakers. You'll also be responsible for the copy writing of promotional materials, and working with the sales and marketing teams to ensure the continued profitability and growth of the conference.


The Conference Producer reports to a Divisional Team Leader (TL) and works closely with the marketing, sales, and operational functions.

Job responsibility

Program Development (training will be conducted)

• Conduct targeted primary and secondary market research to identify industry drivers, inhibitors, and strategies. This includes cold calling.

• Analyze research to write and develop commercial conference programs including a project brief and draft agenda.

• Brief marketing, sales, and sponsorship departments on the event and work closely with these departments to develop compelling content that ensures event profitability.

Speaker Acquisition (training will be conducted)

• From market research, invite (via email and phone) and secure high-level speakers to address topics on the agenda.

• Conceptualize and market product within short time frame.

• Manage relationship with speaking faculty while the event is in the market.

• Negotiate speaker requirements based on a budget.

Business Development & Project Management (training will be conducted)

• Influence the profitability of events by creating event budgets and working with the project team to manage costs and source streams of revenue.

• Generate new topic ideas that can become conference topics.

• Build solid relationships with industry partners, speakers and thought-leaders.

Onsite Event Management (training will be conducted)

• Running the conference onsite, and coordinating with sponsors, speakers and delegates to ensure the smooth running of the event.

• Develop contacts to improve the event in the future and drive results of promotional strategies by working closely with marketing, sales, and sponsorship departments.

• Travel throughout the country to attend conferences, potentially on weekends.


Desired Skills and Experience

Job requirement

The ideal candidate for the Conference Production positions should be solutions-orientated and drive event profitability through innovative approaches to production. Successful candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, be able to prioritize and manage a number or projects concurrently, learn quickly, and assert ownership and accountability over project outcomes. The candidates must be eager to spend a lot of time on the phone engaging on in-depth conversation with senior executives, cope well under deadline pressure, and pay attention to details.

• Bachelors degree required.

• Commercial understanding of events industry – buy/sell relationship required.

• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) required. Candidates may be asked to provide writing samples/marketing copy.

• Strong writing and research skills required.

• 1+ year conference production experience strongly preferred
